Sunday: Three-Time Winner Wilson Chebet Leads Field For The Amsterdam Marathon

Wilson Chebet has confirmed that he will be competing in the 42nd TCS Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday 15 October. The Kenyan won in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and is always very happy to run the popular fast course in Amsterdam. The strong field lining up for this year’s event includes Mule Wasihun and Stephen Chebogut. The presence of these and other elite athletes such as Tesfaye Abera should make for a very fast finish time, maybe even below 2:05 for the first time in the history of the course.

Until last year Chebet held the fastest time on the course after setting a new record of 2:05:36 in 2013. Last year Daniel Wanjiru shaved 15 seconds off the course record bringing it down to 2:05:21. Can Chebet regain his ‘Mister Amsterdam’ title by winning the marathon for the fourth time? Mule Wasihun holds the third fastest time on the start list of 2:05:44. His highest achievement is second in the Dubai Marathon. The Ethiopian also ran in Amsterdam last year, but didn’t make it to the podium. Stephen Chebogut won the Eindhoven Marathon in 2:05:52 in 2015. The 32-year-old Kenyan is an experienced marathon runner having also come second in the Paris Marathon and third in the Hamburg Marathon.

The first group will also include the earlier announced Tesfaye Abera, Amos Kipruto, Edwin Kiptoo and Zane Robertson. 25-year-old Abera achieved the thirteenth fastest time in history of 2:04:23 with his win in Dubai last year.

It is up to Abdi Nageeye to uphold Dutch honour. Besides seeking to improve his personal best, he will also be looking to beat Kamiel Maase’s national record of 2:08:21. The best marathon runner of the moment is the odds-on favourite to win the Dutch national marathon title in Amsterdam.
