The 2019 Boulder Running Clinics High School Clinic will be held January 18th and 19th (Fri-Sat) in Boulder. President’s Day is the following Monday, allowing busy high school coaches a day to recover from travel.
Speakers:
Timo Mostert - Boys cross country and track coach - American Fork (UT)
Paul Vandersteen - Boys cross country and track coach, Neuqua Valley (IL)
Dave Frank - Boys cross country and track coach, Central Catholic (OR)
Robert Gary - Mens cross country and track coach, Furman University (SC)
Attendees receive a hard copy of all slides presented, lunch on the 19th, plus streaming video and audio of each presentation (delivered three weeks after the clinic).
$147 per coach or $250 for two coaches ($44 savings). Teams - $250 for two coaches and $125 for each additional coach. Note: same prices as 2018 clinic.
If you have a minute, let me suggest you read the presentation topics as they are unique to each speaker’s background.
For example, Timo Mostert’s boys set the national 4x1600m record at 16:40 a couple years ago, and he’ll discuss that in “Training Milers: A Paradigm Shift.” Paul Vandersteen has coached an NXN winning team that included Chis Derrick, and he'll discuss cross country training, as well as how to work with an elite HS athlete. Dave Frank’s boys just won their seventh state cross country title in eight years, after being ranked fourth going into the meet. Robert Gary dramatically changed his training between 1996 and 2004, two years when he made the Olympic team in the steeple.
Perhaps the best thing about the clinic is that the coaches that invest the time and resources to get to Boulder are a unique cohort: extremely knowledgeable, extremely passionate about the sport and willing to reassess what they do to help their athletes reach their potential.
Last year every coach presenting had been to NXN or had an athlete at the meet a month earlier. But there were easily a dozen coaches in the room who had been to the meet with a team or individual in the past few years. You can learn as much from there person sitting next to you at lunch as you can from the speakers.
Finally, the biggest reason to make the investment of time and money is that the coaches you’ll interact with - regardless of their accomplishments - are as passionate as you are about honing their craft and helping their athletes improve. At the breaks, at lunch and at the social, there is a great deal to learn for your fellow coaches.
