At 1 block every 10 minutes, Bitcoin is only good for single digit transactions per second. At current high valuations, that implies transaction costs that swamp the value of the everyday transactional needs of J.Q. Public.
But nation states could afford it. Sanctioned states like Russia, Iran, North Korea would find it a nice way to end around any banking sanctions the US might impose. That might be a future for Bitcoin.

1 block per 10 minutes is only 1 factor affecting txs/sec the other one is block weight. Segwit will increase the effective block weight 4x after full adoption. Now that segwit has been activated 2nd layer scaling solutions will emerge. LN and Liquid have been in the works for a while. LN should allow for an unlimited number of txs.
