Saw that Deena Kastor turned 44 today, and realized I haven't seen any racing news from here in quite a while. Anyone know if she has officially retired from competitive running?
I know she's heavily involved with the Mammoth Track Club these days, so maybe she's transitioned to a different role in running?
Anyone "in the know" have an update on her?
Their are enough 40ish distance folks around these to form a Fast Masters Club and set some masters distance relay records and draw some folks into the arena or stadium.
Last time I saw her she was dropping me at the 20 or 21 mile mark of the Chicago Marathon on her way to an American Masters record.
She had originally planned to run OT, if I recall correctly, but did not run it, I presumed due to injury.
Looks like she finally crossed off more than Paso Robles from her list.
Kastor is probably just chillin', she will poke her head up in a few months and drop a 1:08-1:10 half or 2:30 marathon and stomp the rest of the american women. She's still top 10 US being 44.

A year-and-a-half is a long time. What's she done lately? I haven't heard of, or seen a race result from her in quite a while. Hence why I'm wondering if she's given up the competitive side of the sport.
I follow the mammoth track group off-and-on and Deena still works out with the team.
Specifically I follow Daniel Tapia and he mentions her all the time in his tweets. Thats all I got. [that she runs with him/them/etc]
Tieing a masters record 18 months ago didn't seem to me like she's *that* far from being active, even if she had backed off a little.
I guess in the absence of any other information, owning all the masters records from 5K to the 'thon sounds like she might be slowing down.
I believe she acknowledged her mpw is lower now, but thats got more to do with injury management last article I read..
