Every Republican friend of mine complains that welfare recipients are a drain on our country because they take from the system and don't pay taxes.
Now we have learned that Donald Trump does not pay taxes.

I would say that those who don't pay (net) taxes shouldn't be allowed to vote.
But they can still run for office (just like Detroit mayoral candidates can campaign from prison).
Political campaigns and candidates are definitely a drain on the USA.
Obama should cancel them and become like Castro.
Hillary and Obama have been the biggest drains on the economy. Obama was senator and did not earn his pay. He voted "present" on most of the legislation. The ones he did vote for were things like infanticide, i.e., voting against aid for babies who survive botched abortions. As editor of the Harvard Law Review, he published NOTHING. He has been making millions as president while playing golf instead of running the country. He and Michelle have drained the economy by going on extravagant trips costing tens of millions. Hillary has been a drain on the economy by earning money as a Secretary of State but only being a figurehead. Huma said Hillary was often confused (implying that Hillary is an idiot.) She did not know what "C" on classified documents means. She would sleep throughout most of the day while "at work." Look at her lack of accomplishments while SOS - NOTHING. She did nothing but make the world more dangerous. Those two have been the biggest drains on the economy.
One more thing: Ambassador Stephens in Benghazi asked for more security from SOS Hillary. Most competent SOS would simply provide more security. Hillary ignored him and we lost 4 very brave Americans. SHE is a drain on the economy.
Obama actually spent closer $200 Million (NPV) is on family vacations in 8 years. "Tens of millions" is grossly understated

If you totally left the poor to their own, they would revolt and over throw the middle class. (see Bolshvik Rev.)
On the other hand if you give these stupid poor folks just enough to be comfortable they won't want to risk that, so they just shuffle on with their terrible lives, living away from where most of us do not see them, interact with them, go to school with them.
In the end welfare is a benefit to the wealthy and middle class.

Sadly for a lot of people, this is correct. SOME people break out of that, however, so it still is legitimately a hand up.
It's not "the country" that's being drained, it's the individuals who pay the taxes, and it's not the welfare recipients who are doing the draining, it's the politicians. Welfare is only a short-term benefit to the recipients, and the taxes levied to fund it hurt them in the long run by reducing their opportunities to become more productive. Derogatory welfare recipients is wrong and any of us could find ourselves financially ruined in the kind of economy the progressives have given us. The only argument against welfare I need is that forcefully expropriating monies is immoral regardless of the cause. Funding welfare? Immoral. Education? Immoral. Public healthcare? Immoral. Roads? Immoral. The only thing government should do is protect physical safety and this can and should be funded without coercive taxes.
I loose 44 cents on every dollar I make. If not for work and relationship would move to Florida or Texas in a heart beat. If I didn't have to pay so much in taxes I would continue to beef up my brokerage account in equities.

The government is a monopoly on physical force. Its sole alternative is to either use that force to protect individual safety or infringe on it.
