What a shitty thing to do.

It appears that BAS is fitting in nicely with the "win at all costs" mentality that we know is prevalent in the SEC.

Why cut them now, when the scholarship goes through the end of the school year?

These young people and their parents are as much of the problem as anyone else. They are seeking the glory by going to a big time university that chooses to win at all costs. Young people better ask the question "why do certain schools always win?". Is it because of superior coaching or facilities? Sometimes. More often than not it is because of cutthroat coaches that are considered great coaches. Not necessarily a bad thing but they better understand what they are getting. I feel bad for these kids and their parents only because they are ignorant fools and have not done their homework.

Wake up people. It will only get worse in the power 5 conferences. If you do not produce early and often then your a55 will be on the chopping block. The biggest positive is that these young people are learning early what real life is about.

Can we say a huge violation of Title IX. If you look at the roster, there is a significant number of men compared to women. The SWA will be let go by Hart soon for not controlling this issue. We might see a class action against Tennessee soon for a violation of Title IX in an attempt to appease the Men Alumnus, let us cut women. Does not look good for Tennessee.

Sullivan told the six girls that she would not have recruited them and that is why they were being let go. Yet she DID recruit Morgan Harvey when Sullivan was at Penn State and offered Harvey an 80% scholarship.

What she did to these athletes is one of the lowest things I have seen a track coach do. Pretty sad and I hope this comes back to haunt her for the future.

Sorry that Hall is associated with these idiots. Guessing he wont be there for to long. so she basically lied when se said that she would not have recruited them as she recruited Harvey to Penn State. This is the same coach who allegedly told said that her staff at Penn State could not coach in the SEC. I would like to think that if Hall believed in his ability to develop average runners to great runners, he probably defended a few. The other sprint coach probably agreed with BAS cause he will screw up a thoroughbred in a minute.

Something is missing here.

None of this is surprising at all. This isn't about "winning at all costs" for her, as was stated above. If you've ever met her you'll instantly be hit with her ego the moment you speak with her. She feels she's accomplished so much during her career. Except she hasn't come close to any level of success. She's coached various athletes to success individually, but MANY more she has thrown to the side almost instantly before developing them at all. She's much more suited to be the cheerleading coach than a TF/XC coach. Moral of the story is if you're an athletic director who wants their program to succeed while developing good kids and teaching them lessons for the rest of their lives, don't let Beth anywhere near your program.

I agree. I can't think of another coach that would have even have the balls to pull this stuff.

Why not at least give them even one year and see what they can do before pulling their scholarship?

It seems obvious to me that she is so insecure that she wants to cut all ties from the Clark regime. She doesn't want to "win with his athletes" or fail to develop them. While some see her move as arrogant I see it as highly insecure and putting her own feelings and motives ahead of the young athletes. There is a way to accomplish both without treating 20 year olds like throw-away pawns.

Why are you so vindictive towards these athletes? They would have had no idea that this could happen since there is absolutely no precedent for mass layoffs in either revenue or non-revenue sports. If you can find some evidence of this let me know.

By your logic, every athlete at every school is a fool for accepting a scholarship and then participating on the team. Every single one of them could have a new coach tomorrow and be cut from the team and it would be their fault. This is your statement, correct?

Not at all. When you make certain choices in life then you run the risk of things happening. When athletes choose a school because it has great facilities and are a big 5 conference school then you run a higher risk of this happening. I am not surprised at all because it happens quite a bit. Not exactly as this did but in other ways.

I actually am a strong believer in being able to cut athletes and their aid if a coach can get fired for athlete behavior or performance. You should not have one without the other.

There was no behavior or performance problems. They got cut before the season even started.

There certainly could have been behavior problems. The season starting does not mean they could not have gotten in trouble, had questionable work ethics, had bad attitudes with the coaches or teammates, etc.

I will tell every elite HS athlete I know not to go to UT.

So let me get this straight...

For an athlete an NLI is for a school not for a coach. If a coach changes between signing and arriving on campus they have to fight for the right to change schools.

For a coach an NLI is for nothing. New coaches can cancel previously signed recruits at their whim. The scholarship is still binding but the opportunity to train and compete is not.
