He could have run under 45 min if he didn't jogged past 15k.

At 15k he already thought that he finished, so he started a cooldown jog.

But after 10 sec and a lot of encouragement from the managers on the bike, he continued.

I've been anxiously hoping Komon would show more brilliance. Hmmm... We'll see what the marathon brings but I'm no longer holding my breath.

I didn't know Doug Stanhope was a running fan. No longer a hard-partying comedian?

No.

He barely stopped racing, actually never stopped running, and then really started pushing again.

This did not cost him 11 seconds over the last km.

The video makes this clear. Weird that he thought that was the finish!

He certainly did look strong. Maybe he can go for the WR next year.

Yeah, he only holds the 10k world record. Nobody ever races that distance.

From NCAA champion to the best in the world. Watch out for Saina when she moves up to the 1/2. She held her own in short races on the track but her Tilburg and Falmouth wins predict she will be incredible at the longer events.

true, actually he still was closing fast, nearly as fast as Gebrselassie during his WR/CR race (unoffically timed close to 3.07min for the final 1.09km), splits during the race indicated a 45 flat pace, which is still pretty fast.

Koech ran the 9th time ever over the distance and with past experience in the event he will be a true contender for the Chicago victory.
