There have been several threads like this over the years raising questions about the ethics of the leadership at University of Guelph and Speed River in Guelph, Ontario. It was impossible to be involved in distance running at a high level in Canada and not have seen these threads and heard rumours about inappropriate or sketchy dealings or behaviour.
Guelph athletes and coaches sometimes defended DST or the group publicly, but mostly kept silent and limited the amount of information that got out publicly. Things are pretty quiet right now, but for how long?
With DST now on leave from his coaching positions and several more athletes having recently left Guelph, I wonder how much more there is that we don't know about? What other resources, like funding or revenue earning championship hosting, did Speed River receive through illicit means? How far did the 'what's good for Guelph is good for Canadian running' attitude go and how much did this hurt other athletes, groups, and coaches.
