well? It's sort of crazy
well? It's sort of crazy
Calm down holmes. At least he's not as bad as Martin Lel with pulling out of marathons. He just doesn't like racing sub-par marathons. HE obviously doesn't care about racing 10K's and Half Marathons if he's out of shape, but he never wants to show up to a marathon if he knows he won't be able to put forth a great effort. He probably would have pulled out of his last marathon because of his hamstring if it didn't happen to be the Olympics, sort of like how Desi still started the Olympic Marathon even though she pulled out after 3 miles.
So aside from the Olympics, Ryan wants to only show up to a marathon if he knows he'll do well. And he was recently renewed by ASICS so he can do whatever he wants.
I think we have to face facts here - Hall has been hurt for a couple years now - he ain't ever going to be the same.
A guy who has done lots of marathons already and hasn't trained well for two years just isn't going to come back like he was.
I would be surprised if he breaks 2:10 again.
So yes, he will finish another marathon, but he will never be a serious threat to win a major.
he'll be like Meb, just 2 minutes slower. Just tooling around, doing the best he can with a weakened set of wheels, getting appearance fees.

Afraid so. His best days are likely behind him. Advancing age plus numerous injuries plus multiple hard marathons on the tires equals downhill slide. I hope he proves me wrong, but the cards are really stacked against him.
Who cares? He's a 2:04 marathon runner!!!
per twitter - So @ryanhall3 pulls out of @bostonmarathon the same day the #Vatican announces they've got a new #Pope coincidence? The Great #whitesmoke
I LOL'ed
Perhaps if there was a marathon on a track.
Our story on Hall's pull out is now up.
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2013/03/ryan-hall-and-moses-mosop-both-pull-out-of-2013-boston-marathon/
The press release announcing his pull out was entitled:
"John Hancock Financial Announces 2013 Boston Marathon Online Media Guide Is Now Live"
Most misleading headline in history.
He should retire. Don't see how he can top 2:04 with a grace-of-God tailwind, or 59+ HM debut. His body is telling him it's had enough. He had an amazing career while it lasted.
Hall is not a 2:04 marathoner. The course was downhill and hurricane aided. His time doesn't count

Hence, 'grace-of-God'.

UHH....Meb was top 5 at the Olympics. I HARDLY would call that a weakened set of wheels.
He and Sara need to adopt some kids and move on with their lives.

And he PRd to qualify.

he never won open marathon ?
I think he needs rest. At this point in a career.odds are always against a pr. It is not impossible. There is a small chance he can get back. Plus, It's not even clear that he will need much better than 2:10 to get to Rio. He could be Abdi in 2016

Most misleading!! In ALL OF HISTORY!!!!! EVER!!!!!
Schoolboy journalism at its best.
Yes in a downhill and wind aided race.

Maybe Hall keeps pulling out because he doesn't want to have kids yet. HAAA ZZZIIINNNGGGG!
Hall will be fine. Injuries tend to come in swarms for distance runners. One thing breaks down leading to compensation that causes something else to break down and on and on.
Ritz had just about every injury in the book and was written off as done in 2011 but came back to run one of the fastest marathons by a US runner.
Hall is 30 and has plenty of time left in his career.
Mr. Hall is in the stage of his career that the high level of training and racing have taken its toll. He will not be the athlete he once was , plain and simple.
Yes he will run sub 2:10 again , it will mean nothing in global sense , maybe domestically here. The world of elites have run past him while he sits on the sideline , they are getting faster. Sure he is the great white hope and Asics does like him and he's very lucky to have an ongoing shoe deal.
Lack of direction and focus , no big plan , poor coaching decisions , its a shame.
Maybe running non marathon events , doing non marathon training for a spell could help the guy.
He is now a highly paid running expo autograph signing has been , what ever happened to athlete.
