Its been documented and posted across these boards a number of times that Galen Rupp and Bernard Lagat regularly do their distance runs in the 5:30/mi range. This pace does nearly directly correlate to Jack Daniels vdot chart for their assumed fitness levels based on their race performances. When comparing to the logs of most runners I've seen, which includes elite college athletes, they do not train most of their runs at the pace recommended by that same chart. I feel that these paces seem generally fast and would be hard to recover from on a day to day basis. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how Rupp and Lagat are able to train at these paces from day to day and how a 4:30 miler like myself can get out and run 6:30 pace every day as prescribed by the chart
