A heavily glaciated region of the Himalayas is bucking the trend of global ice loss and showing small signs of increasing in mass, according to a new study.
Given the wide extent of high mountain Asia, we cannot expect the climate to be uniform over the whole range, so a peculiar atmospheric behavior over Karakoram may not be surprising," she added.
One part of the Himalaya.
Nice try. 1/10

Data examining six regions in the Karakoram mountains in the western Himalayas, which contains 7,700 square miles (nearly 20,000 square kilometers) of glaciers, revealed more than half of them are either stable or have been advancing in recent years.
Nice try, yourself.

Don't try logic with the global warming er, "climate change" nuts. Nothing will convince them they're full of shit. Then again, I think most of them already know that. I'm still waiting for them to explain what happened to that coming ice age they all promised us back in the 70's.

No offense but you might want to look globally if you are trying to understand GLOBAL climate change.
"In Asia and Alaska, there have been extensive terminus surveys illustrating long term retreat using satellite image and aerial photographic comparison over longer time spans. Those results indicate that 95% of the glaciers are retreating, but are not fully reflected in the annual terminus retreat data base of the WGMS. In 2005 there were 442 glaciers examined, 26 advancing, 18 stationary and 398 retreating – implying that “only” 90% are retreating."

Thanks for sharing. It's all worth a solid discussion, that's for sure. To be clear, the point of my thread was not to incite bitterness or anything like that; the purpose was to stimulate discussion.

No offense, but if you do not understand the difference between pop "science" articles written to sell copies of Time and Newsweek and actual science written for peer review and published in scientific journals then you really don't belong in the discussion.
Please try to acquire some scientific literacy. The world will be a better place for it.

Well played.
Let's be careful about words like "prove," though--the (anti-)religious folks could hijack the thread and get it deleted

Your wait is over:

Should we use the term "terrorist" or something similar when addressing each other?

Nice.
You certainly can, if you'd like. It's up to you.
Nowhere does the article say scientists doubt global warming. The study also says that ice mass in the central and eastern Himalayas has been decreasing over the same time period. One thing a lot of people don't understand about glaciers is that they are affected by both temperature and precipitation, and that these conditions can be very local. Mountains and glaciers create their own microclimates. If you care to open your mind for a few minutes, consider glaciers in the Alps, Rockies, Andes, Alaska, Greenland, etc. Although not every glacier is retreating, and some regions are not experiencing overall retreat, the signal of retreat is very strong around the world. Better yet, visit one of these places and talk to people there who see or study glaciers year in and year out.

Actually, they already have. I suggest you read the peer-reviewed article below.

This would be a good retort . . . if the peer reviewed scientific journal process was worth a damn. I know for a fact it is fraught with corruption running the spectrum from outright conspiracy to the most petty, whiny, schoolgirl antics. It's actually the petty stuff that proves its worthlessness more than anything.
Academic types can be the biggest douches of all.
As cold places get warmer, there will be more snow fall, until it warms to rain. Ask anybody who lives in a cold place, it snows more when it's warm.
In fact, it almost never snows when it is actually cold.
Antarctica is the world's largest dessert.
It will probably see more snow fall as it warms, warmer air can hold more moisture.
