Watching the local news and saw that parents are in an uproar that Running with the Buffaloes was in a middle school library in Forest, VA because of its bad language. School will review its book policy and ban the book. Very surprised that the book was in a middle school library in the first place.
My wife was upset about the bad language until I reminded her that the book sits on my bookshelf with all my other running books.

It has been a while since I read it, but I can accept some level of limiting access based on language to middle schoolers.

These people who think they are intelligent enough to ban a book don't think that any of the middle schoolers have already heard all the "bad" words? That's pretty amusing.
One of the librarians tried to grab a copy out of this kid's hands. He just looked up at her with a glare and yelled "It's my last one b*tch!"

Jesus Christ. Middle schoolers are probably some of the most foul mouthed people around, as it's still somewhat novel to them to string together a bunch of expletives any chance they get (so long as mom isn't around to be offended).

Is the book banned or are they just not offering it at the library? There's a pretty significant difference.

Just because many kids swear in middle school, have seen movies with nudity or even seen pornography, doesn't mean that the MS itself should necessarily offer them.
While I don't think this book really presents a major problem, I can understand why some people might prefer that their kids wait until high school to read it.
It's the difference between saying that a kid saw Superbad versus a kid got Superbad from the school library and watched it.
Honestly, if my son wanted to read that in middle school, I would have been pretty happy with that.

The book was written for a more mature audience. A lot of the things that make RWTB a great running book won't make a lot of sense to middle schoolers. I'm not necessarily saying it should be banned, but kids should probably wait a bit to read this one so they can get the most out of it.

What kind of message is she sending to her children by being obese? Far worse than the message in Running With Buffaloes which promotes exercise. That's twisted.
That mom isn't big, she's blimp-like. She's probably offended by the running content. Don't expose kids to a activity and work ethic that could keep them healthy. Seeing a few bad words on a page will rot your brain and clog your arteries!
