I recently ran my first ultramarathon (50 miles). Like many rookies I started too fast, and ended up enduring a painful last half. In the last 10 miles I felt an occasional sweeping urge to start crying (I didn't.) As a man who cried only once in my adulthood-at the birth of my firstborn- I found this odd. I've heard this emotionality is not uncommon in ultramarathons. Does anyone else admit it, and can anyone explain it chemically/hormonal?
