Matt Hughes runs away from field 8:24!!!!

Brilliant race! Congrats Matt,you deserve it bud. I think that if he can find some hot races he could get that 'A' standard.

That is a manly win with a manly time from a man with a manly stache and a NASTY mullet. Like Sampson and his magic locks, Matt Hughes' dirty porn stache and nasty ass redneck mullet gave him the power to stomp those little boys he was running against.

I feel bad for my hometown hero Rocky Story celebrity Travis "SkettyFace" Mahoney since he didn't have a great race, but there's always next year

What is the A standard? it seems unlikely...this was the race of his life....i'm completely shocked. This blows all his prs out of the water impressiveness wise. Just wow....where did this come from! That's how you peak! If he gets in a race and goes faster that would just be the icing on the cake.

The A standard is only two or three seconds faster and he did this with second place eight seconds back. Plus, the conditions could not have been that great in June in Iowa. He has a great chance to get the A standard. Too bad he's Canadian.

Disagree - the dude was the defending ncaa champ, had already run low 8:30s more than once, and even said in his interview after the prelims "it's going to take mid to high 8:20s to win this race, cause I know that's the kind of shape I'm in"

i don't find that time so surprising....i'm just surprised no one else in the field could hang with him - he torched everybody. Props to Hughes and the Louisville coaches.

He had the "A" standard in the bag at NCAAs, but - and I do not fault him for this - he took his time after the last barrier and enjoyed the victory. He gave a double fist pump once he cleared the barrier and cruised in. Great race and great technique. He's ready to go sub 8:20.

Cabral stayed with him until the bell despite falling early in the race and having to pass the whole field to get back in the race (7:18.75 vs 7:21.39 at the bell).
