nice
Bad luck for Craig virgin.
Thanks. When did Geis make that his event? Wasn't he a 1500/5000 guy at rice (?) and Oregon?
That's amazing that the finish was so close!

I always thought of Geis as a strict 5000m guy.
But you're right, Geis got his qualifier (28:06) only two weeks before the Olympic Trials.
That photo reminds me that both Stan Vernon and Ric Rojas had 15K road records (and maybe one or two other among those guys).
Given your good effort at that track 15K, did you ever run Gasparilla or one of those big road 15Ks?
Magnificence, I did run Gasparilla once not very well. Did tie Lindsay's 10 mile AR (47:02) in a losing effort.

That's Tony Sandoval.
Not argueing, honestly, but I am from Michigan and that sure looks like Herb over number 552's left shoulder. I do know what Tony looks like and to me, that doesn't look like him, but you obviously would know better than I.
Regardless, thanks for posting the photo, pretty cool shot.

I've trained with most of the field so I have an unfair advantage over you.
The uniform should be a dead giveaway. If that was Lindsay, he'd have changed teams, uniforms, shoes, and put on socks sometime during the race. Come to think of it, that might explain why he fell so far behind? ;)
Lindsay is between Stan Vernon and Stan Mavis. Between Lindsay and Mavis is Tom Wysocki.
The guy to the far left is Steve Ortiz. The guy between Sandoval and Geis, is probably Mark Anderson or Jeff Wells, (I'm leaning to the Sparkler) although it could be Mike Buhmann caught bouncing high in the air.
Do you have a pic from the 5k from that year? Did Bobby Snyder run the trials in 1980?
You are correct and I apologize. I did not even look between the 2 Stan's, not once. I saw the eyes and dark hair and just immediately thought it was Herb, but again, I was wrong. Thanks for pointing that out, seriously. I know who all the guys you named are and I "still" thought it was Herb, until your post. Thanks and have a good evening. It's midnight here in Michigan...lights out.
Why do you feel the need to apologize? You didn't do anything wrong.
Don't let the bedbugs bite.

No I don't. Snyder didn't run.
Let me add this note: photo by Jeff Johnson.

Was that the race where Lindsay was ticked because Virgin kept running so slowly in the lead, then fell back, apparently because the pace was too slow for him. I always wondered why didn't he just go in the lead and run faster. But that's why Virgin won the race.
Running was more epic in black-and-white.
Anyone else find Fredericks to be somnewhat enigmatic? Always "there", looking smooth (even amused, in this photo), but never in the limelight. I've seen so many photos of him and know nothing of him.
