Can't stand the term SPEED GOGGLES

You are attracted to women based entirely on them being fast; ergo you are under the influence of speed goggles.

Speed Googles = All woman who are fast look hot

Beer Goggles = All woman look good when you're drunk

There are women that could be considered attractive even if they didn't run (according to the hotness threads, women such as Sara Hall, Kosinski, Marie Lawrence). Being attracted to them is not speed goggles.

Instead look at the Oregon and Washington xc teams at ncaa xc. If you are attracted to the least attractive of either of their top seven, that is almost certainly speed goggles. Ask a non-runner to rate the least attractive on UO or UW on the 1-10 scale and I can almost guarantee that that woman is in the 3-4 range.

Thus, if you find her attractive, it is inexplicable by conventional evaluation methods and is only due to a +5 attractiveness bump due to the fact that they run, i.e. speed goggles.

or alternatively, imagine that the object of your speed google infatuation doesn't run and is instead an obsessive physics major at your university and dresses like the average coed (so she isn't routinely parading in front of you in a sports bra and spankies).

The guys who talk about speed goggles are almost certainly running geeks who prefer to ogle FHM or Maxim fantasy girls from a safe distance. Talking to a real woman who is interesting, confident, and physically attractive is just too much to handle. Yep. I put interesting and confident first.

Being sufficiently physically attractive is necessary, but there's room for a wide range of tastes there.

Same goes for the hypothetical physics major in the post above. A woman who decides to take a hard science major is probably going to be more fun to hang out with than a girl whose greatest achievement is picking out the outfit that best shows off her cleavage. Of course, if all you're going to do is stare then go for the cleavage.

Attractiveness goes beyond the physical. A runner is appealing not because she may be attractive to non-runners but precisely because her image and lifestyle revolve around what the serious runner considers alluring.

I don't think the concept of 'speed goggles' in a particularly bad thing.

It's very real thing. Some people find talented people extremely attractive.

No, you're wrong. My argument is that the the term speed goggles should not be used to dismiss a person's attraction to another. I think we all agree on its definition, but in context, it should not be labeled as a flawed perception of the other.

ya theres lots of super fast runners who aren't hot at all like phoebe wright and erin donahue but then theres suppppppperrrrrrrr hot girls who are fast and the running just takes them from a 9 to a 10

i enjoy phoebe's complexion and looks. everyone has their own standards..
