tane - If you are just running a half this fall, try the 12-week plans I think. 18-weeks are just way too long. Especially for a beginner like yourself. Just try to increase your mileage to a decent level (40-45mpw). Then jump into the plan. For your first time through the plan, it might help to use a heart rate monitor also and use the prescribed ranges Pfitz gives you in his book.
lohalloran - I looked at WineGlass, Mohawk-Hudson and BayState. I think out of the three, they all have there advantages and disadvantages. However, I also have another monkey wrench in the equation. I'm running New York on 11/7 so I had to consider recovery time between the two races...
Out of all of the 3 courses, I think Wineglass is the fastest. Mohawk-Hudson the next and then last BayState. But they are all flat and fast. Weather wise, October is a crapshoot, but late October in Lowell MA can give you the crappy winter weather they had last year also. (That's one good thing about New York, it is seldom HOT in early November in NY and for some reason it is usually dry that time of year).
For Wineglass's start @ 830am. The weather has been for 3 hours...
