Solinsky's record comes almost 50 years to the day after Buddy Edelen became the first American under 30:00 (Ron Clarke was the first ever).
Just four months later, Max Truex was the first American under 29:00, crushing Edelen's record by 1:08.
It took twelve more years before Shorter became the first American to go sub-28:00.
And it was a whopping 38 years after that until Solinsky became the first American under 27:00.
