Of course Rupp’s run was bound to be overshadowed by Solinskys superb sub 27
However, he has dipped under the old US record and smashed his pr by 23 seconds
Is his run being underrated?

no.
Solinsky is the man of the moment.
Anyone that ran behind him becomes a "Woulda Coulda Shoulda" on Let'srun.com
Personally I think Rupp ran a fantastic race but focusing on it is an insult to Solinsky.
Who is Galen Rupp?
yes.
He ran that old PR like 3 years ago. It's great he broke the US record, but it's about where most would think he should be right now.
I think it is. He carried the load after 6K. When he runs a paced 10K in Europe this summer, he's going to run at least 26:55. Should make for a fun summer for all of us.
Here, if you dont win you suck. Just see Ryan Hall's last results.

Well, it's kinda hard to be excited about a 27:10 when the guy in front of him breaks the old AR by 14 seconds, runs under 27, and scorches the last 800 in 1:55, not to mention that Galen got 4th place.

Uhh.. think about this a little more, dude.
What exactly do you get excited about? One race every 10 years or so? Only with AR's or WR's?
Sorry man, but that's salty. Rupp ran incredibly well. Give him his props. Yes, he lost to Solinsky, but think of whom he surpassed:
Nenow, Meb, Virgin, Pre, Shorter, etc, etc, etc, etc,
I think what he meant to say, is if galen won in 27:10 everyone would have been pumped, but it's hard to pay attention to that when you have a big old 26:59 there screaming out at you on the results sheet.
This was GOOD for Rupp. He had a good race and got his goal while getting his ass kicked anyway. Rather than basking in the glory as the new AR holder, he gets to refocus on his training immediately and set new goals -- learn how to run 64 second laps and still finish with a 1:55 800 while running with the big boys in Europe, and trying to improve his PR. He will be better prepared for upcoming world champs and '12 Olympics. And probably have better competition for the U.S. spots.
Solinksy was a debut, Rupp has ran the 10k before...That is what i am most shocked about

Is a debut like this really significant? At this point, he's surely run hard tempos or hard long practice runs or even ncaa cross 10k.. I don't know why debuts like this get so much focus. Its not like he hasn't run the distance before.
Maybe if it was significantly away from his usual events and distances (like a marathon or the 100m), but it's not. It's an adjacent event.
The focus should be on his time and improvement which was great! Congrats Solinksy!

I remember my first time racing a 1200 in a DMR my senior year of high school. I had been running 800's and 1600's all four years but the 1200 still felt really akward the first time. I went out way too hard and died.
Just because it's adjacent doesn't mean its totally natural the first time.
this is a professional runner and someone who has been running for YEARS, not a high school boy. You don't think there's a difference? I'm totally open to being wrong.
it's still a different pace for a different distance, but it was obviously easy for him once the cramp went away.
Quick: Who finished fourth in the last World Soccer (football) Championships?
Galen Who?
If 27:10 is not a good run what does that make you lot?
Pathetic

First, please tell me you're not an actual coach with that attitude.
Second, please do NOT compare athletics to any ball sport.
And you know what? Yes, people DO remember who finished fourth in this race or that race. People do NOT remember who finished fourth in some lame ballgame/tournament, because, well it's lame to begin with.
