I surmise he'll run a fast 10k in Europe by the end of the season, run 26:50s or faster, and just remember it's okay to lose in May when you win in August and September.

If there is a 10K anywhere in the world. I recall there wasn't last year after the World Championships. The commentators mentioned early in the race at Payton Jordan that it could be the fastest race in the world for the very reason that there were not many 10Ks this year.
But I agree. Rupp is very capable of beating 26:59 given a situation like Ritz got in the 5K last year in Zurich.

One possibility is if Ritz is healthy they try to add a 10K to PRE or another meet at Hayward field. Rupp has proven that he can do the work to go at target pace and he'll be more fit in a couple months. Ritz would certainly share the work so IF they got great conditions it could be a possibility.
One thing that can't be discounted is that they have to be on like Solinsky was on the night. Solinsky had a Billy Mills moment in absolutely perfect conditions and with a pacer for 9100 meters. That stuff happens once or twice in a career, and for many never. Rupp and Ritz are stronger 10K runners and would just need an on day and not the performance of their career, but there's no gurantee for that.
I for one hope they don't do it at PRE, as much as I'd like to see the 2 of them go under (especially in the same race) I'd rather see them with all the other horses in the 5K.
Maybe they add it to a summer meet in Eugene and try to get a few thousand people out and the same rabbits they had last saturday.
utrecht has canceled their track 10k this year. it very well could be the best time of the year by solinsky, who knows solinsky might be the first american ranked #1 in the world since bruce bickford.
