I'm sure I got something wrong here. If I'm reading the stats correctly, Solinsky's 10,000 meter time makes him the outdoor track world leader by 16 seconds over the next fastest time, John Thuo's 27:15:73. You tell me:

27:15.73, I should have said.
This may change once the European season starts.
You are obviously and completely wrong. I'll let someone else explain why.
I think you're both forgetting something
do the other times from Payton not qualify? If they do qualify he is only the world leader by 8 seconds over Salel.
Daniel Salel 27:07.85
Remember that 3 other guys in that same race all ran faster than 27:15, so no, Solinsky is NOT the world leader by 16 seconds. He only leads the world by about 8 seconds.
Daneil Solel, 27:07, second place in the same race.
No, you were not reading properly; engage brain.
Things change quickly at this early stage of the season. The IAAF had an article up the day before Solinsky's race about how that 27:15 was the fastest time of the year. The folks who can run 26:40s haven't gone to the track in the 10,000 yet this year.
anyone know when and where the european mens 10k's on the track will be this year?
ostrava has a womens 10k on may 27th.
hengelo on may 30thwhich usually has one, does not list a 10k.
brussells the last diamond league meet of the year usually has one, but they did not have one last year, IF they have it this year it would be on august 27th.
Utrecht has had some fast 10k's the last few years, but i cant even find a listing for the meet, so i dont know if the meet is cancelled this year.
This is a very common problem with Letsrun, but I think people undervalue sub 27:00 and sub 13:00
26:59 was 6th in the world in 2009. 5th best performer.
...6th in 2008. 6th best performer.
...9th in 2007. 9th best performer.
...4th in 2006. 4th best performer.
Ritz was 7th best performance, 5th best performer over 5k in 2009.
Teg was 15th best performance, 12th best performer over 5k in 2009.
Alan
There were 3 ohter guys in the same race that were faster than that!
once the summer is all done, there will have been somewhere between 5 - 10 guys in the whole world who will have run under 27:00 this summer. if you look at the top lists for the past 5 years' 10,000m bests on the track, the top 5-10 are usually under or around 27:00, so even after the top 10k runners in the world race at 10k, there'll only be a handful of guys who can run a faster 10k than solinsky, and i bet solinsky could out-sprint a lot of them. especially if he can continue to close like he did at payton jordan.
i'm more curious where solinsky will set his goals in the 5000m and 3000m. he said one goal is to go sub-13, and i think he'd like to do that at pre because they're trying to get the first sub-13 on american soil there. now that solinsky had run 26:59 on american soil, and a couple americans ran sub-13 last year, i definitely believe it is possible.
I'd say Solinsky could end up shooting for 12:50 and 7:30. that 3k AR is going to be the last of the American distance records to go. he did run back-to-back 13:30's, or really, 13:34 and 13:25 back-to-back. i think he was happy last year to open up with a 5k in under 13:20. now he finishes 10k's in 13:25. crazy.
Soninsky's 26:59.60 would have been the 6th best performance in 2009, the 6th best performance in 2008, the 10th best performance in 2007 and the 4th best in 2006. Pretty heady stuff.
