Solinsky's time of 26:59.0 is two 13:29.8 5ks.
Tiidrek Nurme of Estonia won the 5K in 13:32.74
Has an American ever won both races in the same meet before?

I think they went through halfway in 13:34, which means a CS did a 13:25 second half.
I thought it was 13:36.

reasons you are an idiot:
his time was 26:59.60 not 26:59.0
that doesn't mean he won the 5k too
of course the 5k 10k double has been achieved before in the same meet by an american
this thread is pointless
uh-oh we've got our chris solinsky haters popping up.
You're a moron. The women's 10,000 WR was < 2* the 5,000 WR for some time.
not true
kristianson ran 14'37 in '80s ( double of which is 29'14 ) & wang ran 29'31 in '93
wang did though run the last 5k of that in 14'26 !

I don't think the poster meant it literally, rather pointing out the pace of the 10k was faster than the 5k.
If this is common, as you suggest, maybe we should ask why 5k runners are so inferior to 10k runners.

Where did he suggest it is common? He was referring to an actual double, not the "I'll take my 5k split." By the way, did you hear Bolt won the 100m as well with his final 100 split this weekend? And yes the OP had info wrong and asked stupid questions.

Another way to view it - he ran his 2nd half w/in a few seconds of a WC/Oly "A" qualifier...
Yeah yeah yeah I know the best do this regularly etc but it puts CS in the same league...
