#2 on all time list of both 5k indoor and 10000m outdoor.
Could still be best American, or American born, ever.

Now get off.
10 seconds in a 10k is a decent gap, but not huge. he's still in the mix with solinksy on the american scene.
he'll have his hands full at the 5k distance. ritz, teg, lagat, and solinsky. not to mention a few others that might have a breakthrough.
It's not like he's been trained like all other typical collegians either. The guy's been coached by AlSal since HS. His improvement curve is probably flattening out more than the typical 23 year old.
If German Fernandez can stay healthy and get some big mileage years under his belt, he can beat each and every one of those times in 4 years.
stillllll searching..... wrote:

Yeah, we'll see what happens in the championship races. Rupp knocked Solinsky off the WC indoor team just recently, chances are good he can do it again.

Maybe, but people have been saying Rupp was tapped out by Salazar, every year, since his senior year of highschool.
Could care less about German, he won't stay healthy. Chris Derrick is the one to watch of that college class.
1) No one with a brain has said that Rupp was burned out out of HS or shortly thereafter; that would just be a stupid statement.
2) Though you may feel GF won't stay healthy, I would think if you really want to see the best of the best, you'd CARE to see him do so. As an 18 year old - an 18 year old - his times (natural capability) on the low end (up to the mile/3K) are so much faster than Rupp it's scary. We should be nurturing him like we did Rupp.

Where have you been the last 6 years? That is something you only wish on your worst enemy.
