Will I ever be any good at this height?
Will I ever be any good at this height?
Yes it is quite tall for elites.
I'm 6'2" You can be good if you want to. I broke 1:50 in Highschool.
Don't let things get you down. Its better than being some 5'3" Kenyan anyways.
So what about being tall is detrimental to running? Is it just the weight, or is there something else going on? I'm 6'5", and even though I'm extremely thin I weigh nearly 165 pounds. I have no plans to be a world-class runner, but I'm curious about how height affects running.

Well I'm 6'7" and 160 pounds. Beat that.
5'11" is a little on the tall side. However, it is not that tall that you would have significant gangliness/inefficiency issues.
height won't matter, people used to think height made you a slower sprinter until Usain Bolt came around (6'5")
height matters. You'll never see a 5'3 world class sprinter. Being tall is much much better.
Ian Dobson 6'2"
Craig Mottram 6'2"
Chris Solinsky 6'1"
Matt Tegenkamp 6'1"
Abdi Abdirahman 5"11"
Ryan Hall 5'10"
etc., etc.
There are many more important things than height that will determine whether you can be "any good" (as you put it) or not.
Paul Tergat 1.82m = 5'11 3/4
David Rudisha is 1.90m (6'3")
5'11" isn't tall for anything and won't get you laid.
Wheating is awfully tall.
shit that sucks im 5'4" at age 18 =[
I would actually say that being tall is an ADVANTAGE rather than a disadvantage. That being said, I think that with being tall there also comes the possibility of being quite inefficient.
But you can certainly work to keep this in check by doing regular strengthening exercises on the gluteus medius muscles. Strengthen those, and you will be able to use your longer legs to a big advantage.
Are you a girl?

Only 1 high schooler has ever broken 1:50, robby andrews.
Unless you are him, you are lying.
At least I am pretty sure that is what I read on wikipedia.
Do your feet reach the ground? That is critical because if you are 5'11" and your feet don't reach the ground you are better off become a swimmer.
robby andrews was the first to break 150 INDOORS... you clearly know nothing if you think only one high school runner has gone under 150 ever. elijah greer went 147 as a junior..
Solinsky is 6'1".
