I have never been one to buy into conspiracy crap, and always held firm that when my team blew it, it was their fault, despite what crappy calls the referees made.
I heard a different perspective tonight though. Someone tole me that the reason the referees make borderline calls go against the mavericks is because Mark Cuban is their owner. And Mark Cuban often has criticized the league and the officiating.
It makes sense too. There have been 3 teams ever to win 50+ games 10+ years in a row: The spurs, the lakers (in the 80s) and the mavs.
Over that period, the mavericks have 0 championships. the spurs/lakers each have/had 4. It's not like the spurs/lakers have 4 and the mavericks just have 1 or 2. And, the times that the officiating has been at its WORST was in the last 4 games of the 2006 finals. Game 3, 2006 finals: the mavs are up by 13 with 6:30 left in the game. if they win, they take a 3-0 lead. no team has ever came back from 3-0 in the playoffs, let alone the NBA finals. If the refs didn't do something now, they would let it slip away, and the mavs would win. So, the whistles start blowing. game 5, the vital game when the series is tied 2-2 the heat get attempt 49 free throws, dwyane wade attempting 25 of those. game 6, heat attempt 37, mavs attempt 23. it;s like the calls are the worst when the stakes are the highest.
now, in this series against the spurs, it just seems that the referees make the most BS calls against the mavericks. the refereeing is getting almost as bad as football. it's just ridiculous.
