I'm fairly new to the 1/2 marathon distance. I have run two races and gone low 1:11 for both of them. My current training has me peaking out around 80 - 85 per week. During the week I incorporate a long run (2 hours max so far), 1 light workout (turnover based), 1 longer workout (intervals, fartleks, tempo, etc.), and recovery days in between. On the side I do a rotation of strength exercises to help make sure I stay healthy, but nothing over the top at this point.
My goal is to keep improving gradually in hopes that one day I might reach the 1:05 level, which we all know if the Oly. Trials standard. With this said...I am perfectly content to keep running PR's and seeing progression with my running.
The goal of my post is to gain knowledge from other runners out here on the boards that can help out (especially from personal experience). It would be great to get a discussion going on how one might increase training efforts to progressively get faster and lower a 1/2 marathon PR from 1:11 -> 1:05.
Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.
