NYC Marathon 2010 qualifying period

Wow, thanks for the head's up. That does suck. NYRR is closing entries in early March, but there aren't a lot of HMs between now and then, at least around NY. I guess that means the Manhattan HM in January. It seems that the Bronx in February should also be enough, particularly if the NYC HM (in August?) and Boston will still get one in. I just haven't run an HM since 2007.

I think that they are moving the NYC HM up to March in 2010.

There's a 13 month window. That sounds pretty fair to me. Granted, 10 of those 13 are already past, but it still sounds pretty fair. Especially since they'll count Boston 2010.

I suspect that if you run a sub 2:30 or sub 2;20 your entry will be accepted regardless of when you run it - within reason.

The window itself is fair. It's just that it's a lost shorter than it used to be and NYRR just popped it now so if you were planning on doing it based upon the old rule and, say, run an HM in April (again there are very few between now and the end of January), you may have a problem. I would have done Grete a few weeks ago simply to get the qualifier had I known.

I second Joe.. it's not about the 13 month, it's about the fact that they've changed it for 2010 without prior notice.

That basically means no NYCM 2010 for me.. maybe 2011 then..

Wow, just saw this, and had no idea about the change. I've been injured pretty much all this year, and was looking forward to running a half in the spring in hopes of taking another crack at NYC. I guess that's out.

In the past, NYRR has made an exception to the deadline for their own spring half-marathons.

Luckily they didn't change the three strikes and your in policy with the lottery, so that's how I'll get in for 2010.

NYRR really sticks it to the 35-39 year olds in the open. Not like Boston... Missed qualifying by less than a minute @ Chicago this year.

Has the date of the 2010 race been decided yet? I couldn't find it when skimming the website.

The window actually extends back to January of 2009 if you've hit your qualifying standard (full or half marathon) since then. I agree with the general frustration, though, that to announce it now does leave people in a bit of a lurch, especially if your target qualifying run doesn't happen until after the new deadline. It kind of sucks.

If the guaranteed entry window closes March 25, and the NYRR will accept a Boston result in April, then why wouldn't they accept a HM result in February. It just doesn't make sense.

This thread is of particular interest to me because I was planning on running my first NYCM in 2010.

I've been struggling this year, but ran a qualifying half-marathon in March '09. According to the website, I can use that time though I'm not happy with it and the new window isn't giving me an opportunity to improve it.

As this would be my first NYC Marathon, how do they seed runners? If you qualify and get in via early entry, do they seed subsequent lottery entrants by time? My March performance will really knock me back if that's the case. Or do early entry qualifiers get in corrals closer to the front and lottery positions fall behind them, regardless of times?

If anyone knows, please tell me. Thanks.

Myself- I'd be happy for the excuse to avoid parting with the $200 entry fee.

NYRRC sucks in a lot more ways than one.

The deadline to qualify has moved up to January EXCEPT for the NY half and Boston. The NY Half is in March this year - so go for that!

Usually there is a half marathon in Central Park in late January - if that doesn't work, fire away at the $100 NYC Half

This is BS, I hate it when people aren't logical. You shouldn't change the policy during the qualification period. So I guess I need to be asking, what are the odds of getting in off the lottery?
