For some reason I've been watching a lot of documentaries on theoretical physics lately.
Richard Feynman is one of my favorites. What a character.

michio kaku... the oriental einstein.
Doc Brown, of course.
88 MPH!!!
Dr. Emilio Lizardo, of course.

Einstein was no Einstein. He was more of a media creation. Especially when you look at Poincaire, Lorentz, Fitzgerald and a few others and begin wonder why Einstein wasn't brought up on plagiarism charges. Kaku is simply a guy who makes bizarre, inaccurate claims in order to get media exposure. He's about as great a physicist as Carl Sagan. If you're looking for an Asian, then list someone like Chen Ning Yang (look at his work with Robert Mills, the Yang-Mills Theory, etc).
Feynman was a great physicist and a character. Had a great way of explaining things in a manner that made ideas clear to the average person.
Hideki Yukawa
Strangely enough (even to me), I'll probably go with Einstein. (Used to be Newton, but I found out more about him and his place dropped significantly.) Why, I even know what Einstein got his Nobel for...
Schwinger
Fermi
de Broglie - most under-appreciated ever.
Dr Sheldon Cooper
FTW

Reading "American Prometheus" about Oppenheimer. Not sure he is my favorite, but he was brilliant. His papers predicted things like black holes and other findings that were decades ahead.
I suspect he may have been an alien.
Feynman, Bohr, Heisenberg, Schrodinger, Dirac, 't Hooft,
Weinberg, Witten are all up there.
Issac Newton
(It shows that devote Christians can be scientist as well)
Issac Newton -- One of the top 2 greatest scientist of all time!
I am another big fan of Feynman. But I also like Justin Maxwell/Michael Faraday as well. I believe unifying the ElectroMagnetic equations was a huge inspiraion for physicists to continue to make new discoveries in the realm science in general. I mean where would we be today without the knowledge of EM and that they gave us. As far as names that are still alive, I read INTERACTIONS by Sheldon Glashow, and his personality really clicked with me. My mentor said he found him to be too arogant, but being surrounded by sprinters and mid-dis runners all my life I thought he was completely normal! (however another shout out to Bohr. Maybe I should just list every physicists that made a significant contribution to the world haha)
Niels Bohr
Me
Feynman, of course. The only physicist who bothered to explain to me why we can't possibly have an honest man as president. Versatility is my main criteria! PSU Track Alumni celebrate Physicists 24/7.

Hey now. He's a serious physicist who has done serious work in string theory and I think that being a good science popularizer is extremely important. We need a few more people like him and deGrasse Tyson to help raise an interest and awareness of science among the general population.
