Half of these songs have high BPMs, but aren't terribly upbeat. Paper Planes? Such Great Heights? Not exactly songs I'd run to. Seriously, Umbrella? No.
Looking for songs that are specifically 180 BPM is a waste of time. Just find a bunch of songs that have a quick tempo and get you in the mood to run. This isn't marching band- your stride cadence doesn't have to match the tempo.
"The Middle" by "Jimmy Eat World" is 180 bpm.

Ideal turnover is 180 steps per minute.
Just try any of the free or shareware DJ programs out there that let you adjust BPM while maintaining the pitch of the music...then you can make any damn song you want be 180 bpm.

Average "ideal." You know what I meant. That's why he wants songs with around 180 bpm.
On iTunes there is a podcast called Podrunner by a DJ called Steveboy. He has one hour podcasts that vary from 130 to 180bpm. I downloaded a few that were in the 178-180 range. I love them!
One other thing.
Believe it or not, as embarrassing as this may be, Shakira's Objection (tango) is actually 180bpm.

Wrong.
A FEW exceptions have been pointed out to jack's theory. That is by no means a "shredding". There remains an ideal for most people. It is very close to 180.
So instead of just listening to what you want to hear, you will listen to music that is 180 beats/min because it will cause you to run faster? Do you do this for workouts or for all runs? Do you really think listening to a song with an off beat will cause you to run differently?

I'm sure the website says they are, but Paper Planes, Monkey Wrench, and Umbrella are not 170+ BPM (I haven't heard the other songs).
When determining BPM, you can't use the hi-hats/rides as a reference, seeing that a lot of the time they are played in cut time, which is double the actual BPM of the song.
I just listened to Paper Planes. It's 87 BPM (or 87.5 to be exact).
Actually, "Such Great Heights" is one of my favorite running songs of all time. I never realized that it was 180 bpm before, but in retrospect, I think it might affect my turnover when I head out the door (rarely take music with me).
I don't listen to music for all runs, but it helps me on tempo runs to pay attention to the BPM of at least the first few songs. What I find screws me up the most is to have songs with a BPM of 80 or 82. My feet do tend to match the beat if it's close to my natural turnover. If the beat is way different, like 120, then it's not a problem.
