What to do about NEW tires that make my car swerve?

Anyone??

Probably just a balance issue. Take the car back to the shop that did the work and explain the problem. They should fix it at no charge. I doubt anything is actually wrong with the tires.

They probably tampered with your front end so you'd have to bring it back and spend a few hundred dollars more

Make the shop that sold you the tires to take the car for a ride up to 60 mph (you should go with them) so they can experience what you've experienced. Chances are it was something involved with the installation of the tires, not the tires themselves, though you can check those yourself for correct pressure and tread - take the tires off and make sure there's no warped spots, worn tread with exposed wire, etc.

did they get you for $10 extra per wheel by charging for some strange balance thingy. not your normal balance, a micro cut whatever. les schwab on 11th in eugene, or. tried that shit on me, and just walked out, and went to walmart and got a better deal. that might be the cause. or maybe you need a wheel alignment.

An out-of-balance wheel will NOT cause what a car to swerve after a bump; it will cause a strong vibration at speed. Most likely what is going on is that the worn rear tires have a lot less grip than the new front tires, which will make the car want to oversteer in certain situations, particularly on high speed corners. This is one of the reasons why a good tire shop will recommend always using 4 matched tires.

If you paint it black for $29.95 you solve all the problems.

Hey, it's is definitely the old rear tires. Always have a matched set of 4 tires.

Tires should match for best results, definitely must be same size

Best pair of tires go on the rear, whether RWD, FWD or AWD. Helps keep the rear from swinging out

Inflate properly per the sticker on your car (usually on door jamb)

I dunno if anyone has said it yet, but if you are going to buy only two new tires, the new ones should ALWAYS be put on the back. They should know this.

I kind of doubt that is what is making your car do what it's doing, but still.

As stated above, new tires should go on the rear axle. If your tires on the front are better that the rear, your car will be unstable. Think of a boat with the rudder in the front.

If the camber/caster or toe-in aren't set correctly, you'll experience these symptoms. Your car needs to be aligned.

If you front tires were really worn, then they just wore out in such a way as to mask the symptoms. The new tires, with full treads and a flat profile across the top, will grab and fight the misalignment.

I hope you can get that figured out. They should be able to get that fixed no prob, especially if it's Les Schwab. They also should have given you free beef! :)

Many of the newer cars have assymetrical tires. Rears larger than fronts. So you can't switch.

Are the new ones the same brand as the rears? That makes a bunch of difference.

Assymetric doesn't mean you can't swap front to back. It means you can't swap left to right.

There are a handful of cars with unmatched front and rears. If some cheap bastard is putting only two new tires on the front of his Corvette, then he's got other issues.

Actually, assymetric means that the tires are different on the inner and outer sides, so the person mounting has to put them on the correct way. You are thinking of directional tires.

Did you buy winter tires, by chance?. The softer compounds and deeper groves lend themselves to such handling.
