As a spectator to the race, this amazed me. The winner's name was Alex Romero and second place was his brother(didn't catch his name). His time was somewhere around 2:30(remember this race is at altitude) making this feat even more impressive! Has anybody else done a marathon barefoot? Or any race?

Romero (alex not his brother) has always been crazy like that. He once walked around campus barefoot until the people in the cafeteria told him he couldn't be in there like that.

I did a 5k XC race barefoot and i won but i got DQ'd.
But how do you know these guys didn't take their shoes off a mile away from the fininsh?...just wondering?
My dad was running so I cheered at the 6 mile, 13.5 mile, and 20 mile marks. And neither of them had any shoes for any of it.

Very impressive, on the issue of the vibram shoes though, I am not a fan. I work at an outdoors store and have done trail ultra's and when I got my demo pair, I just didn't feel like they lived up to the hype around them. Yes, they are unique looking and a fun way to get someone to look at your feet (if you are into that) but, as a training shoe, I was not impressed. If you want to feel like you are running barefooted then do it on a soft grass field where you know glass would not be an issue. That is unless you live in an area like mine where every field either has glass or enough heavy metals in the soil to cause supposed problems in the future, instead then wear the Nike Free with the least bit of cushioning. One specific problem I had was they don't last very long but, this is could be because I live in TN and our trails are notoriously rocky and rooty so you tear a bunch of things up on the trail.

I have run 2 barefoot marathons (and one more in Vibrams) myself in approx 3:27, 4:20, and 3:45 respectively.
Didn't really train for any of them for time as much as i did for the distance, just to finish. But my lack of training in general truly haunted me on my second marathon (the 4:20 one.)
Have done loads of 10Kms and some halves which are entirely more manageable and fun.
