I may not agree with Howard on this one, but he is well within his rights to have his opinion. It is in fact, incredibly American of him to openly express his displeasure with some real or perceived incongruities with the American justice or political systems (or whatever he was not particularly pleased about). There is nothing un-American about voicing any opinion. That being said, Howard should probably do his best to keep his mouth shut.

If he articulated some actual point or argument, I'd agree. There is a difference between making a valid argument stating displeasure and saying "Yo, f*** that shit nigga" without giving any reason for your anger.

If you go out to dinner, and your meal isn't satisfactory, do you tell the manager specifically what was not to your liking, or do you just walk up to him, swear at him a few times without actually telling him anything, and walk off? Same idea. A complaint without an argument is at best meaningless and at worst makes you look like a jackass. It certainly doesn't accomplish anything.

You'd think that a bunch of guys who supposedly attended (graduated from?) college would be able to articulate their displeasure a bit better.

I continue to have zero problem with any of this Josh Howard controversy. If he said that to me, I would certainly chuckle and would in no way be offended. I'm glad he feels free to verbally express himself. Most of us don't feel safe speaking our minds these days which... isn't very American imo.

Also, to the OP... please be careful. I know all black people look and act the same to you, but Dwight Howard has a very different personality than Josh. I have a feeling you would like Dwight if you knew who the hell he was or had any idea what you are talking about.

I think it's pretty self explanatory what Howard was referring to. Many minorities are disenfranchised in the United States, and you can pretty much aim it all in the same direction.

As for your assertion that Howard said "Yo, f*** that shit nigga": first of all, that's racist, from "yo" which Howard didn't say, to the "nigga" at the end. He said "I'm black." Not "Yo, f*** that shit nigga." Quit exaggerating, that's how people make one line sound way worse than it actually is.

JOSH Howard (though I also like Dwight, he's alright, but he's an Orlando Magic player) is right. The vast majority of (white) people have no clue at all as to what exactly went down in the aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans. However, the news that the corporate media failed to deliver traveled by word-of-mouth in the black community. Go read Not Just the Levees Broke: My Story During and After Hurricane Katrina by Phyllis Montana-Leblanc if you want to get a true idea of what they went through thanks to a government and a nation that doesn't really give a crap about its worst off citizens and profits by keeping them down. Black people, by and large, have a good enough perspective to know that this country is still incredibly racist. Is Josh Howard just supposed to forget that because he's making lots of money in the Association? I'm okay with what he said but unfortunately there will be tons of backlash thanks to what the neocon media likes to label P.C. run amok. No, don't express anything that might make people uncomfortable, no matter how concretely true it is. On the same token, I really would rather not stand up and remove my hat during the national anthem at sporting events I attend. I'm no nationalist and I can't figure out what the hell that song has to do with the game about to be played. Yea, it’s easy to say that when minority communities are targeted by law enforcement. I’m from a majority white suburb and believe me, crime is an equality opportunity player so don’t give me that.
