Is this true? Ann Trason should be all over this. Dean K. might 'agree' to this, then come up with some 'ailment.' He would never go through with it though. Yiannis probably needs to put a wager on this so he stands to lose something.

This is fantastic. Finally a truly elite ultra guy calls out that self-aggrandizing sack of crap and challenges him to put his money where his mouth is.

I agree with the above poster that there's no way in hell Deano follows through with it, but at the very least it should give him the kind of publicity he deserves (but rarely gets) -- the negative kind.

Yiannis Kouros is like 52 years old, he should not make such claims. Why do the Greeks fight each other? Cannot we all get along?

Yannis, like Jurek and the rest of them, need only look towards their sponsors as to why they lack publicity, the media takes what is given to them..

Silly man. Yiannis is a legend among ultra runners (Dean says as much in his book) and doesn't need to do this sort of stuff. Plus, the bet is one sided (Dean has nothing to gain and everything to lose). YK could beat Dean over almost any road or track distance (marathon and up. Trail is a different matter) and they both know it.

I'm no fan of Dean, but I don't believe that he has, personally, claimed to be the greatest. He has certainly let other people make that claim for him without correcting them, but accusing him of defrauding people and "selling lies" is a little over the top. It just makes YK look petty, IMHO.

Yannis would eat Dean alive.

Did I imply otherwise? The 6 hour head start he is offering seems pretty miserly, actually. He could probably give DK a 12 hour head start and crush him.

Yannis, there is no need to try to validate your superiority over Karnazes. You know you are better. Dean knows you are better. Anyone who follows long distance running knows you are better.

The only thing Karnazes has been more successful at is "selling" himself to companies and the media.

On a side note, I do have to respect Karnazes for his attempt to try and get people (esp. kids) more involved in fitness. Is some of it for self-gratification/promotion? I think most of us would say yes. (Think 50 in 50). But the guy does have a charity that does a lot of work promoting a healthier lifestyle for kids.

I checked the link, it links to yanniskorous.com. Still could be garbage, but it also wouldn't be surorising if Yannis had control over that domain name.

As for tke language, it could just be poorly translated.

of course this is the same YK who isn't giving interviews because he thought the ESPN piece was going to be totally about him, good way to market oneself to just put out a challenge..

i think something must have been lost in translation since it appears they think DK ran 300 miles without any food/water/etc when so much of his fanfare is everything he DID eat along the way..(Round Table Pizza anyone)

Forgive me if I'm a little late to the party, but I read the karnazes book and don't remember him bashing anyone or ever saying he was the best....quite the contrary as a matter of fact.

As someone else mentioned, if I were one of these other ultra-studs who are faster than karnazes, i'd be pissed at my promoters for doing a shitty job and not getting me on the cover of some magazine.

Saw her and hubby Karl out running a couple of times. They're fitter than Dean K. straight up.
