The alligator has to be a new one to add to the list of animals that have killed runners. How many other animals in the US have killed runners. I know we got cougars and I would assume dogs but I don't know that for a fact. Bears? Rattle snakes?

Hey Stone, shouldn't you be out trying to find runners who are pedophiles? Or maybe runners who are pedophiles who have been killed by animals? How about animals who are pedophiles who also enjoy running? Maybe an alligator who chats with 14-year-old girl runners on the interent and then kills them? What about runners who try to have sex with underage animals?
It depends on where you draw the line between runners, joggers, and power-walkers. People have been attacked by wild animals across all of these categories. It's very difficult to decipher which ones can be specifically identified as "runners". Assuming a "runner" is someone who was moving at a pace of at least 6:00 per mile on a run that was intended to be a workout (as opposed to someone running to catch their dog or running from a police officer), then the answer is:
72 different types of animals have killed runners
**This figure is also differentiated from those identified as "runners" but were not currently running at the time of the attack/kill. For example, if Alan Culpepper were attacked while walking through a mall parking lot on his way to Bath & Body Works. If you include all attacks/kills on people who can be identified as "runners", but were not attacked during while running, the figure is closer to 156.
Below is a list of the top 10 most common types of animals involved in attacks on runners:
Rhinocerous
Anaconda
Tiger
Rottweiler
Vulture
Snapping Turtle
Jason Rexing
Rattlesnake
Elk
Bigfoot
Also keep in mind that these figures DO NOT include deaths caused by insects, arachnids, fish, or crustaceans. Someone else can do the research on those. But I would imagine that killer bees have killed a few runners.
Thats pretty funny.
I'm defining runner pretty loosely.
Has a watersnake ever taken a runner out?
Yes, Galen Rupp was bit and killed by one as he was using his underwater treadmill.

I don't know. But I've definetly seen a water snake while running. A Northern Watersnake to be exact in Blowing Rock, NC. I'm pretty sure they aren't poisonous though.
The North American bigfoot, with an estimated 200m split of 26.5 seconds, was the cause of at least 5 confirmed kills. The Yeti, however, is much slower and can only catch runners in the snow.
humans?
We'll never know for certain because some animals have gone extinct.
