But I heard that because of Boston's history or something there was some exception and that this WOULD count as a world record. Does anyone know anything about this?

my question about paying out for a world record time was serious. i understand that this is not a world record, but it seems like the payout is offered at boston, and my guess is mass law makes it illegal to advertise the payout if it's impossible to win (impossible because of the point-to-point course issue).

After years and years of kicking myself for not seeing Geb's world record, I'm happy to say that I paid the 5 dollars for this one. I'm so happy. This moment changed my life and I will forever use this as motivation for my own running. Ryan Hall is such an inspiration to me with his american record.

While times at Boston do not qualify for the World Record the payout offered for running a world record time is offered by the Boston Athletic Association, specifically for this race, so the payout still counts.
