imo, yes she's doped. When she broke the Chinese woman's WR a few weeks ago she was way inside her previous personal best pace. As a runner myself, I know that past 400m, (even past 200) if you go even a fraction under your pace early on, never mind seconds under, you can end up losing seconds per lap afterwards.

The WR is a pace of 67.8.

No lap needs to be any faster than 67, and not even that considering conditions.

If Ayana sets a 67/lap pace for 4600m, Dibaba can still pass with, may be not a 60 second last lap, 62 or even 64 sec lap.

Yes, Dibaba can definitely outkick Anaya, but the question is whether she'll be close enough at the end of the race.

I believe their record is 7-2 in favor of Dibaba, but one of Anaya's victories was 1 year ago by a 10 second margin in hot weather like Beijing.

Screw all these mouth-breathing doping-obsessed mfers. If there are positive drug tests or other evidence among these particular athletes, then yes, it's worth discussing. Otherwise there's no point.

It would be thrilling if Ayana really was on Dibaba's level, but I just don't see it.

There's no "wonder drug" here. Nothing she has access to that no one else has. This is a lazy strawman.

First off, not everyone responds to drugs in the same fashion. Some people get sick, some people develop lifelong health problems. Dibaba could be (and likely IS) as excellent responder.

Second, she's from a country with spotty (at best) doping controls. Much easier to get away with doping in Ethiopia (and Kenya, and Jamaica) than it would be in, say, Japan, Western Europe or even the US.

Third, and forgive me for entering the realm of "conspiracy" now, she's reached the "too big to fail" point, much like Bolt. Even the presence of dope in her blood would be unlikely to lead to a ban.

Her performances are off-the-charts absurd, she's crushing times by those "everyone knows they doped" athletes like the Chinese, she's closing 1500s with world class open 800 times, her coach has a history of sketchy/questionable athletes (including Driouch)............. Connect the dots here.

The premise of the original question is false. It's not true that Genzebe is so much better than everyone else. At her age, Tirunesh and Meseret were at least as good as Genzebe is now in the 5000m, both of them could finish with a 57-58 sec last lap. Both of them concentrated on the longer distances and we'll never know how fast they could have run the 1500.

Second, we have to accept that East African runners are a special breed. East African women have not been running competitively in the world scene for decades. They started with only a few runners 2 decades or so ago at the longer distances and only within the past decade that they are running middle distances. I expect them to get even better in 10 or 20 years.

It's also a perfect example of selective discrimination - of course there is no way a Chinese woman could run 3min50 clean (btw they never failed drugs tests) but Dibaba is Ethiopian (and also cute) so let's disregard the fact that no women had even run close to 3min54 in the last 12 years since a doping Turkish women ran 3min55 in 2003 and also that this is about the most ridiculous performance jump in terms of a PR we have seen at this level (to a WR) maybe ever from one season to another (3min57 to 3min50).

The last time they raced, Dibaba had a hard time hanging on to Ayana, clipping her heels several times, and only leading one lap of the race where she slowed the pace 5 seconds from the previous one. Alana took over from then on and ran the next one 6 seconds faster.

In her 14:14 solo this year Ayana ran splits of 2:54, 2:55, 2:47, 2:50, 2:48, and bettered her previous time by 14 seconds. Her goal was 14:22.

You truly are a moron. The fact that Dibaba was clipping Ayana's heels means that it was extremely easy for her to hang on to that pace, to the point where it became uncomfortably slow for Dibaba. When Dibaba went, she utterly destroyed Ayana on the last lap. Ayana is an outstanding runner, but Dibaba is existing in a different universe than every other woman on earth right now.

With all that being said, I highly doubt that Dibaba can solo a world record in the heat after running four races. However, if she can get in a race with decent conditions after worlds, 14:11 is as good as gone.

By the time Geurrouj got around to the 5k, it was harder to get away with taking as much EPO as he was when he was at his fastest. There was no test in the late 90s.
