There were Tutsi tribesmen in Rwanda jumping up to 8 feet for as long as their tribe has existed.
You can find old photos and documents of their epic jumping ability.
They did "cheat" by using a small anthill as their take-off spot but it was usually just a tiny one that was only a few inches high.

Which NBA guys jumped 7 ft in college?
Not NBA, but Bahamian Donald Tomas played DIII B-ball...and he was World, Panamerican and Commonwhealth HJ champion.
He jumped 7-0 without practice, in basketball shoes.

quick google searching does not substantiate anything more than 6'6" for Wilt.
Right. Wilt was a great track and field athlete, excelled at every event except the pole vault. Big eight champion high jumper at 6'6", using the old roll technique. Bill Russell was an even better high jumper, I think NCAA champion, not sure.
Unless they can jump off one foot, I wouldn't bet on coming close to any WR. Vertical leap and high jumping are not the same exact talent

Yes, you are right that Wilt jumped 6'6" at Kansas. But after he invented the Fosbury Flop, I think he went on to be the first high jumper to clear 8'.
The highest measured vertical in NBA history is Phoenix guard Gerald Green at 46 inch. Harlem Globetrotter dunk artist Jacob Tucker has a 48 inch. Uhkov has like a 54 inch, Sotomayor was 55-56 in his prime.
These guys are leaping close to 8 feet at their hips. That puts them about shoulder level to a 10 foot rim. There is no comparison.
The jump in the pic was supposedly a 44-inch vertical.
jeff trepagnier jumped 7'1 at USC he's out of the NBA

Maybe
But wouldn't starting with high hip height before you even jump (being tall) help?
This is a very silly thread. Wiggins is basically kicking that guy in the belt. Sotomayor could kick him in the face. Even very athletic NBA players would probably need to focus on technique for about a year to be 2 meter jumpers-- basically at the level of fringe national qualifier in division III.
javy is a god and taking a guy with no high jump background and asking how high could he jump is frankly asinine, but 2.00m is pretty paltry as far as HJ goes.
2 meters is about 6'7
Mason Plummle jumped 6'8 in high school
Rodney Carney jumped 6'11 in high school (mom was a world class sprinter)
Bob McAdoo jumped 6'7 in 1970
Jeff Trepagnier jumped 7'1 at USC
Wally Ellenson jumped 7'3 at Minnesota and player bball there
taking someone with no high jump background and good hops and trying to get them to clear 2m in the high jump is a losing proposition but there have been many guys who played basketball and high jumped 2 meters and some of these guys weren't even good enough at basketball to play beyond high school. basically what i'm getting at is when they start high jumping young enough plenty of basketball players can clear 2 meters. its when you get guys trying to clear 2.20 or 2.30 that you really thin the ranks and someone splitting their time between basketball and high jump is really at a disadvantage to someone training just to jump.
i think part of the fascination with the vertical jump by people on letsrun and the possiblity to translate it to the high is that these guys like Wiggins get really high in the air and people like the OP go OMFG imagine how high he could get over the high jump bar, when in reality with no practice the basketball player is going to be very rough and inconsistent and would be a non factor for a long time until the training took.

It isn't maybe. It is a fact. There is low correlation.
Sure, being taller helps, but how about this:
Stefan Holm, at 5'10", had a vertical jump of just over 30".
He had a better PR and career than Donald Thomas, former bballer turned high jumper, and plenty of other tall/freaky athlete type guys.
Look up Justin Darlington if you want to see how well even the best of these guys do in the high jump. 6'4" freak dunker, surely with a higher vertical than Wiggins or anyone in the NBA, and couldn't even hit 7' with a couple years of training.

That's right. 7-6 is 5" above the world record when Wilt was in college. 6-6 was really good for that era.
Bill Russell high jumped 6'9", which was world class at the time.
Yeah, Russell was ranked 7th in the world, 3rd in the U.S. in college with little specific training.
http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/images/stories/Rankings/14-mhjrank.pdfBut 1956 was the year the 7 ft. barrier was broken. I think they still used the straddle method.

Where is the definitive proof that Holm only had a 30" vertical? Or is it another fairy tale?

at the bottom shows that Holm high jumped 23 inches over his own height. His vertical was probably over 50 inches.

I don't believe these for a second.
I'm inclined not to believe anything in this thread.
Anybody impressionable shouldn't read this thread, or anything LetsRun.

Played professional basketball in Russia.
