Blue Collar Running: Camp Phoenix Marathon Kabul, Afghanistan

A while back there was a super popular thread "Yuppie Running vs. Blue Collar Running" on the message boards.

We thought of having the Blue Collar Runner of the Month on letsrun.com but have not gotten around to it.

We also figured if we ever had blue collar runner of the month, that someone in the military would probably be the first winner.

So when we got an email on the Camp Phoenix Marathon in Kabul, Afghanistan (6,000 feet) we were impressed. These men and women are thousands of miles from home, with very little time to train, are at altitude, and surrounded by dust. Far from ideal conditions to train in. Yet they find time to run, and run marathons.  Throw in the fact they are defending this great country of ours and are putting their lives on the line on a daily basis and it's way, way more impressive.

So congrats to them. And if you have any ideas for our official first Blue Collar Runner of the Month email us.
