Gags and Nike Farm Team Moving to Oregon By David Monti (c) 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved July 24, 2006 When Vin Lananna coached at Stanford University he got Nike to back a post-collegiate development program, the Nike Farm Team, and lured former Georgetown coach Frank Gagliano to coach the team, many of whom were Stanford alums like Jonathon Riley, Jason Lunn and Michael Stember. Now that Lananna is at the University of Oregon, he's putting a similar program in place under the auspices of the Oregon Track Club, and Gagliano --known widely as "Gags"-- is joining him again. The funding will again come from Nike, headquartered in nearby Beaverton. "For over four decades, Frank Gagliano has guided athletes to the highest levels of our sport," said Lananna in a press release. "His experience and passion for track and field have positively impacted the college and post-collegiate programs that he has touched. He will be a tremendous benefit to this new club, the athletes, and the entire athletic community in Eugene." Eugene already has a post-collegiate distance running club, Team Eugene, coached by Matt Lonergan, whose wife, Marla Runyan, is the club's most prominent member. Eugene is the home of the University of Oregon where Lananna is Associate Athletic Director/Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, a post he has held since last July. "I am thrilled to embark on this exciting opportunity to continue working with some of the sport’s top athletes," Gagliano was quoted in the same press release. "Eugene is an ideal location for high-level training, and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this new team for our athletes and the sport of track and field." There was no word on which athletes would be participating in the club.
