CARSON, Calif. (26-Jun) -- Khadevis Robinson and Hazel Clark won their respective U.S. 800m titles here today to conclude the middle and long distance events at the U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Home Depot Center.

Robinson earned his second U.S. 800m crown, the last coming way back in 1999 the year after he graduated from Texas Christian University.  He burst to the front of today's race from the gun and was never challenged, carrying good speed down the homestraight to clinch the win in 1:45.27.

"You gotta do that," said Robinson of his aggressive, front-running style.  He said that he would have run faster today, but he allowed himself get distracted in the final 100 meters.

"The last 100 I started listening to the crowd and the announcer," he admitted.  "I tightened up."

David Krummenacker came second-to-last early in the nine man race to take second in 1:46.80.  He came from sixth place with 200m to go, not the way he likes to get it done.

"I had very bad position in that race," he said sitting in the mixed zone.  "I got out too slow.  When I came to the 400 I think I was last."

The enigmatic Kevin Hicks came from fifth place to take third place in 1:49.99.  When asked if he waited too long to start his sprint he replied, "Everything went according to plan."  Then he looked down for a moment, and back at this reporter and said, "There was no plan."  Asked to describe his excitement upon making his first U.S. outdoor championships team he said, "It hurt."

Hazel Clark won her second U.S. outdoor 800m title, the last coming in the 2000 Olympic Trials.  Clark took the lead when the field broke from the pole, gave it up to Kameisha Bennett halfway through the race, but regained it on the backstraight of the final lap.  She held off Bennet in the homestraight to win in 1:59.74 to Bennett's 2:00.59.  Alice Schmidt, who still needs a World Championshps "A" qualifying mark, finished third in 2:02.09.

"I died all the way down the straightaway," said a smiling Schmidt, the former University of North Carolina star.
