Meb Keflezighi Appoints His Brother As New Agent As of April 25, 2005, Olympic Marathon Silver medallist Meb Keflezighi has appointed his brother Merhawi Keflezighi as his new agent. The runner-up of 2004 ING New York Marathon has informed his former agency Global Sports Communication (GSC), led by Jos Hermens, about his decision. Merhawi Keflezighi is a 2nd year student at the UCLA School of Law. Meb: At this point in my career I need an agent who is based in the United States and can give me the day to day assistance I need. I have many good years of running ahead of me, but I also want to create opportunities for my life after athletics. I have found Merhawi can help me achieve these short and long term goals. He is smart, passionate, energetic, responsible, and personable. Merhawi and I share a vision of expanded exposure in the United States and will work together to make that vision a reality. I have always worked in a pleasant way with the people of GSC. They have been instrumental in helping me get where I am today. They truly understand the nature of our sport and I respect them deeply. We have agreed on keeping the lines of communication open and I may even consult them for overseas activities. Jos Hermens adds; I have a deep respect for Meb and his dedication to his profession. He combines that with being a great personality as well. I regret his decision but understand his motives. We all have love for the sport but at the same time we both do realize that it is a business as well. Meb has weighed the advantages and disadvantages of overseas management and made his decision. I can only respect that, as he has been honest about that from the start. In the future Meb is always welcome to use our knowledge and relations if he needs any assistance. We wish him all the best for the future.
