Galen Rupp Sets High School Record at 3k
LetsRun.com
June 23, 2004

Oregon high schooler Galen Rupp ran 8:03.67 in Canada yesterday to set an American record for 3000m while finishing 3rd at the Kajacks International Track Meet in British Columbia.  Rupp broke John Trautmann's previous record of 8:05.8 set in 1986. (Trautmann went on to star at Georgetown and run the 5000m at the 1992 Olympics)

Rupp's run converts to 8:42 for 2 miles, which would put him 5th on the all-time list, still 6 seconds behind Jeff Nelson's 8:36.44 high school record in 1979. Rupp has the fastest time in the nation for high schoolers from 1500m to 5k this year.
