Men’s 1500 Prelims: Phenoms Hobbs Kessler & Cole Hocker Win Heats as Favorites Move On

Kessler moved from sixth to first with ease to win heat 1, while Hocker won the loaded heat 2 featuring Matthew Centrowitz and Cole Hocker. 2016 Olympian Ben Blankenship also advanced but really struggled and did not look fully healthy.

Our Worst Fears Realized: USATF WILL NOT Honor Top-Three Finish at The US Olympic Trials Unless You Have The Standard

This is one of the darkest days in history for US distance fans. We emailed USATF to make sure they would be honoring the IAAF world rankings so those top 3 at the Olympic Trials could go to the Olympics - they told us they would not. That means Olympic silver medallist Paul Chelimo wouldn’t have made the 2016 team, nor would Jared Ward and three other Olympic finalists including Bernard Lagat who won the most thrilling race was the Trials. Some US Olympic Trials races may now be totally meaningless.

RRW: Amy Cragg And US Marathon Champ Brogan Austin Win Road To Gold 8-Mile Road Race On Atlanta's Marathon Trials Course

Cragg ran 43:23 (5:25 pace) to win the "one-time test event" to win the women's race easily while Austin ran 38:07 (4:46 pace) to beat out Jared Ward (38:17) and Parker Stinson (38:25). Both winners commented on how tough and hilly the course was.
