For years I have wanted a shoe that is in between a fast racer (something to take on a track 3000m but not a spike) and a marathon shoe (aka lightweight trainer). Now finally I have the Nike Streakfly. It even says right on the shoe “5k/10k”. I have worn it for fast 200s (30s) and a 10 mile road race (58:11). And everything in between. It holds up! No carbon tech but I don’t mind that, I cannot fathom paying $300 for a shoe anyways. Got these for only $100 on Nike website. They should last about 300 miles. Will be buying another pair when time comes.

Best Nike option for track workouts

Following the disappearance of the Pegasus Turbo's, this has been my go-to for track workouts for the past few years

    - First run in them can be a bit unstable for the ankle until the inner gets the imprint of your foot
    - Because of the soft underside like the Next%'s, if you use them off of the track they will get pulled apart by small stones
    - Not suitable for road workouts really, got plantar-f quite bad from how un-protective/unsupportive they were on road

+ light enough for track workouts
+ low-profile enough for track workouts
    + not a true carbon-plated shoe
+ if looked after (kept on track), they can last a long time

I'm a lifelong Nike customer so these have been the best option, much better than the Pegasus Turbo Nature's, if you are looking for a light, non-carbon plated workout shoe

I found this shoe heavily discounted at Ross. I've put about 100 miles on it and would estimate I'll get another 100 miles.  The two best uses for the Streakfly are as a road racer under the HM distance or for fast training sessions outside of spikes. This shoe is "bouncy" and does not corner well in road races. Lock down is also not great. I did get an 8K PR in the Streakfly and enjoy longer-fast track intervals in the shoe but it's not a marathon shoe and its not going to replace your Next% for racing any distance. Overall its a niche in your shoe rotation and fun to own at the right price.

This shoe is the best option for High Intesity/Speed workouts other than spikes. The bonus is this shoe is much more comfortable and gentle on the feet than spikes, allowing you to keep on one shoe and run the whole workout without foot discomfort. While this shoe is good at sub 5 minute mile (3:07/km) I also find it good for slower repetitions as long as the goal is a workout. There are some cons with this shoe though. Firstly, the durability is not great due to the material this shoe is made out of. They are also not a stable shoe to do anything other than quicker efforts in, so I find that if I am lifting before my speed session, which I often do, I have to wear different shoes. Overall this shoe serves its purpose well, but is definitely not a daily trainer or a shoe for anything other than fast efforts.

supper comfortable but not too durable. is very cushiony little spicy feels great on foot.

  • Very good , the weakness is oddly enough the shoe laces. The plastic cover on the lace end fell off in the firstcweek causing the lace to unwind. I had to retwist the fibers and use a fkame to seal them

Great shoe, used it to break many pbs in xc as well as a work out shoe, mid sole gets torn up real easy, and some rubber bits on the upper wore off after a month of light use, not enough to affect the proformance.

Great for tempos and longer intervals. No plate means less impact for injury prone runners.

Love these for interval and pure sprinting sessions when I don't want to use spikes. They feel great running on grass and last a lot longer that way, road running beats them up pretty quick. Great value if you get them on sale, kind of expensive and maybe not worth it at full price ($160), I paid like $80 - 120 for each pair.
