Mafate Speed 4 has put Speedgoat in the Corner

The Mafate is soft, fast and has crazy traction! It's a true trail shoe, this isn't good for pavement or hard packed dirt, but it shreds off road.  I love the Speedgoat, this is just a little softer and has a little more grip, both have a place in my rotation.

The Mafate Speed 4 is what the new Speedgoat wanted to be. With its superior tread, great cushion, nimble ride, and excellent durability, the Hoka Mafate Speed 4 ranks at the top of my trail running shoe ranking.

After two years of PF issues, I turned to Hokas for the past decade - challenger first, then about 10 pairs of speedgoats, and now Mafate Speed 4.  Except for the Speedgoat EVO (best shoe ever), this is my favorite HOKA.  It feels a touch more comfortable and “straight” on runs than the speedgoat, just a bit less “clunky” on landing/first part of foot strike.  Though the specs say 4mm drop, it feels a bit less than speedgoat’s 4mm drop.  95% of my runs are on trails (woods roads, soft rail trails, some single track and mountains).
