Police Report: Fred Kerley Was Arrested After US Olympian Alaysha Johnson Alleged Kerley Hit Her In The Face With A Closed Fist
Johnson told Broward County police that Kerley struck her in the face, causing her nose to bleed
By LetsRun.comAs reported earlier today by LetsRun.com, American sprint star Fred Kerley was arrested on Thursday night and booked at Broward County Jail, where he was charged with touch or strike battery.
LetsRun has obtained a copy of Kerley’s arrest report, which states that Kerley was arrested following an altercation involving his ex-girflriend, fellow 2024 US Olympian Alaysha Johnson.
Johnson alleges Kerley struck her face with a closed fist which caused her nose to bleed. Kerley’s girlfriend, DJ Sky High Baby, disputed that account, saying Johnson’s boyfriend was also involved in the altercation and he was the one who hit Johnson. Writing on X, she wrote, “2 people came up and privately told me she literally got hit by her boyfriend slow swinging self. SMH. Fred and the bf was the altercation.”
Former national team sprinter Rae Edwards, who is close to Kerley, said a similar thing when he did a live broadcast on X last night after the arrest (now deleted, available here), saying that the altercation was between the boyfriend and Kerley, with Johnson getting caught in the middle of it.
Johnson’s boyfriend was not mentioned in the arrest report; the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Kerley was the only person arrested in the incident.
Johnson told Broward County police that she and Kerley had dated for six months in 2024 but that the two broke up in October. She said she encountered Kerley at the hotel on Thursday and the two got into an argument. Then, according to the report, Johnson claimed “Kerley became aggressive and continued to approach her, stating something to the effect of, ‘I’m going to fuck everyone up in here up.'”
Johnson then said Kerley struck her once in the face.
The incident in question occurred on Thursday evening at the Le Méridien Dania Beach at Fort Lauderdale Airport, which is serving as the meet hotel for Grand Slam Track Miami, an event both Kerley and Johnson were scheduled to race. Grand Slam Track told LetsRun Kerley will no longer compete in the meet; it did not say whether Johnson will compete. The women’s 100m hurdles is the first event of the meet, scheduled for 5:42 p.m. ET on Friday.
Thursday marked the second time Kerley has been arrested in 2025. In January, Kerley was arrested in Miami Beach following a confrontation with police. In February, he pled not guilty to charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Kerley has also been charged with battery by strangulation and robbery by sudden snatching stemming from a third, separate incident involving his wife, Angelica, in May 2024. Kerley also pled not guilty in that case.
Kerley has been competing without a shoe sponsor in 2025, finishing 4th in the short sprints event group at the first Grand Slam Track event in Kingston in April. Kerley’s agent Ricky Simms did not immediately respond to a message from LetsRun.com.
