Christian Coleman Defeats Noah Lyles To Win World Indoor 60m Title in Glasgow

Note we have a longer article on the men’s 60m final here.

Christian Coleman is still the king of the 60m.

Getting out well with his trademark start, Coleman opened up a gap a 40m that Lyles could not close as Coleman won his second world indoor title in a world leading 6.41 as Lyles was a clear second in 6.44 and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake got the bronze in 6.46.

Quick take: Christian Coleman is still the king of the 60

Noah Lyles got better in each round at Worlds in the 60 (6.57 in round 1, 6.47 in round 2, and 6.44 in round 3), but Christian Coleman is the greatest 60m runner to ever live and has run 6.34 in this event. If Coleman was near his best in the final, he was going to win the event and this showed.

Quick take #2: The biggest winner of the indoor season may have been… Noah Lyles

Prior to this year Lyles had never run under 6.51 for 60m. He just did it twice in one day and did it 4 times this indoor season. Considering he pulled off the 100/200 double last year at Worlds, Lyles improvement in the 60m makes him definitely the Olympic 100m favorite.

Coleman’s world title today was impressive, but he also also ran 6.41 for 60m in 2022, in his first season back from his whereabouts ban. Steve Cram said on the BBC broadcast that 60m into the 100m at last year’s World Championships, Christian Coleman was leading in 6.40 seconds. He finished 5th. Today’s performance was gold for Coleman, but is advantage Lyles for Paris.
