NXN 2023 Results: Addy Ritzenhein Wins As Doug Soles Becomes First Coach To Win Titles at Different Schools
By LetsRun.comAddy Ritzenhein, a sophomore at Niwot High School in Colorado and the daughter of On Athletics Club coach Dathan Ritzenhein, ran a smart race and powered away from early leader Elizabeth Leachman to capture the 2023 NXN Championship in 17:10.4 for the 5k course at Portland’s Glendoveer Golf Course. Bethany Michalak finished second and Leachman, who led by 14 seconds at 3k, faded to 15th.
Ritzenhein joins her father as a high school national champion as her dad won back-to-back Foot Locker titles in 1999 and 2000.
Ritzenhein’s efforts were not enough to bring the team title to Niwot as they finished runner-up for the second straight year. Michalak’s Air Academy captured the team title, 61 to 72 over Niwot, as Colorado teams went 1-2-3 with Mountain Vista third.
