Running in lane 9 after being a time qualifier for the final, Sha’Carri Richardson ran a 10.65 championship record to relegate Jamaican rivals Shericka Jackson (10.72) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.77) to the silver and bronze respectively.

Richardson threw up her arms just before the finish, knowing that she was the world champion.  Then when she came to a stop on the track, she put her hands over her mouth in disbelief, waiting for confirmation. Once she got it, there was a huge smile, and then a sprint of jubilation on the track.

In a show of good sportsmanship, Fraser-Pryce came over and hugged Richardson, and soon the three medallists were seen smiling together with their flags on the track. All three were medallists, but make no mistake about it, for tonight at least, Sha’Carri Richardson was the queen of the 100m.
