Despite sunny and hot conditions, the first three women in the 10,000m –Keira D’Amato, Olivia Pratt and Abbey Cooper– all set personal bests at this COVID-compliant, micro-meet. D’Amato, 35, had the best performance of the meet with her USA-leading mark of 32:33.44. “This ‘return to running’ has been such a fun ride for me,” she posted on her Instagram account. “Thank you to everyone for the kind messages of encouragement and support.”
NOTE II: Each athlete had to test negative for COVID-19 twice in the week leading up to the race. The track was closed to all but credentialed persons. For the 10,000m races there was one misting station, and sealed 8-ounce water bottles were available from one drink table (which was re-loaded by gloved/masked volunteers). The few spectators in the stands were required to wear masks and remain socially-distanced
